A big thanks to the volunteers who created them for us.<\/p>\n<h2>Ideas for Household Chores:<\/h2>\n<p>There&#8217;s no doubt in our minds that most of you will already have an abundance of chores in mind for the kids to help out with, but just in case you&#8217;re looking for ideas, we&#8217;ve put together a quick list of the most popular.\u00a0 Obviously, different chores suit different age groups.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make the bed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Wash up \/ Stack or empty the dishwasher<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Collect the laundry together<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Feed the cat \/ dog \/ rabbit \/ other pets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Tidy bedroom<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Lay the table<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Water the plants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Fold \/ iron laundry (dependent on age and ability)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Sort out rubbish for recycling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Vacuum carpets \/ sweep floors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean the bathroom (best for older kids\/teenagers and even then, only those you trust with bleach!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Tidy away toys<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Straighten cushions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Hang up clothes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Wipe coffee table(s)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Put shoes together in pairs (good for very little children)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean fridge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Why Bother?<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1900\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rooftoppost.co.uk\/free\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/child-doing-laundry-chore.jpg\" alt=\"child-doing-laundry-chore\" width=\"325\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rooftoppost.co.uk\/free\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/child-doing-laundry-chore.jpg 325w, https:\/\/www.rooftoppost.co.uk\/free\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/child-doing-laundry-chore-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 325px) 100vw, 325px\" \/>Some of the advantages of encouraging children to take part in household chores are obvious.\u00a0 You get more help.\u00a0 You&#8217;re encouraging your family to work as a team.\u00a0 But there are other, less immediately apparent upsides too.\u00a0 Take, for example, the fact that most chores are active.\u00a0 They burn calories.\u00a0 They mean half an hour away from the laptop, TV, kindle, smart phone, or whatever new tech the future may bring.\u00a0 They are also fulfilling.\u00a0 They foster a sense of achievement when they&#8217;re completed, not to mention the opportunity for you to give that &#8220;job well done&#8221; praise which makes all children glow.<\/p>\n<p>Then there&#8217;s the setting an example thing.\u00a0 You may not feel like the most organised of people on the inside, but if your children see you making lists of things for the family to do and getting them to stick to it, they&#8217;re seeing a leader at work.\u00a0 And they&#8217;ll copy you.\u00a0 Unconsciously.\u00a0 In all sorts of contexts and long after they&#8217;ve flown the nest.<\/p>\n<p>To sum up, the humble chore chart can help your kids with self-discipline, taking pride in work, time management, health and hygiene awareness, self-confidence, increasing activity levels and much, much more.\u00a0 The question isn&#8217;t really &#8220;Why bother?&#8221; but &#8220;Why on earth not?&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chore charts are becoming a very popular way of encouraging children to organise their tasks.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve added a few here because quite a large number of parents have requested them &#8211; we hope you find them useful.
